What is SES?

SES stands for the SPARK Entrepreneurship School, and this year for the first time, it will be organized by SPARK in Jordan and is sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The school is designed to introduce young students in Jordan along with their professors, to modern entrepreneurship in interactive teaching methods. This is to introduce a new model of teaching entrepreneurship in higher education institutes. The project aims to create the spirit of entrepreneurship in Jordan’s youth, to lead social and economic development by introducing new businesses and products to the local and global markets.

Why should I apply for a course this winter?

You will gain entrepreneurship skills and learn how to build a professional business plan in a new interactive way and we will help you expand your professional network. All committed students/teams will receive a participation certificate and get the chance to participate in our start-up competition at the end of the course to win recognition and possibly a prize.

What is the application deadline for the students/teams?

What is the application deadline for the visiting professors?

the deadline is 15 October 2018.

 

When will Winter Entrepreneurship School (WES) 2019 start?

WES will start in January during the Jordanian universities winter break, the exact dates will be announced shortly after the applications are open.

How many courses do we have this winter?

5-10 entrepreneurship courses will be held in 5 Jordanian universities.

How long are the WES courses?

Each course will run for 2 weeks. (10 Working Days)

What is the teaching language?

The courses will be taught in English.

What is different about these courses?

Each course will be co-taught by the international visiting professors and local professors, interactive and modern teaching tools will be used such as group work, discussions, presentations, field work and lectures.

The courses will have high focus on practicality, and each student/team will develop a valid business plan by the end of the course.

What is the selection criteria for the course?

The selection is based on the novelty and applicability of the business idea, and the level of readiness & commitment.

Can teams apply?

Both individuals and teams can apply, however each team must contain a maximum of 3 team members.

Teams made up of 2 members must contain at least 1 enrolled student or graduate student of the university in which the course is being held.

What additional events are offered at WES?

An open debate forum will be held for students from all universities with their professors. The forum discussion topic(s) will be announced after the courses start. Attending these discussion(s) is not mandatory, however, students are encouraged to attend for the experience.

Will I get a certificate?

Only students who attend at least  80% of the course will get a certificate from SPARK and their University at the end of the course.

Can I participate in the start-up competition?

the Top 3-5 teams from each university will be able to participate in the start-up competition.

What is the evaluation criteria for the start-up competition?

The jury panel will evaluate the pitches based on:

  • Personal/Team Qualities
  • Quality of the Business Model
  • Financial Sustainability
  • Spin-offs on Local Economy
  • Novelty of Business Model
